Creative Studio courses for school-age children provide a strong arts training as foundation for creative expression. The fun yet challenging curriculum emphasizes the technical competencies in various art media and balances this with a purposeful plan to develop the cognitive functions, creative confidence, and self-expression of a child.
All courses teach the arts as a discipline with its own body of knowledge, skills and techniques. Students learn about the elements and principles of visual arts including line, shape, color, space, and tone. Structural principles include scale, balance, rhythm, proportion, harmony, and repetition.
Critical thinking and collaborative work are main features of Creative Studio courses for ages six years and above. Teachers follow an inquiry approach to engage students in thinking about big, meaningful ideas. Students are encouraged to ask questions, research information independently, and make their own interpretations through creative and critical thinking processes. They also learn to work towards planning and developing original artworks – individually or as a member of a team.
The one-year Art Course is taught in weekly sessions and progresses through four big themes:
• “Draw Like an Artist: Fundamentals of Drawing”
• “Color Your World: Introduction to Painting”
• “Creating Balance: The Principles of Design”
• “The Technology of Art: Introduction to Digital Design”
